Dated Content Checker
Got pages shambling around your site that should have stayed buried? This tool helps you sniff out potentially outdated, low value or forgotten URLs which are dragging down your site's performance.
Run a scanReads the URLs in your published sitemap and flags patterns — years, seasons, and test or duplicate markers. It doesn’t open the pages, so it’s instant, and it can’t judge what’s on them. No login, nothing stored on our side.
Looking for your sitemap…
Matched on the URL alone. Year a 19xx or 20xx date · Season aw22, ss23, spring-21 and similar · Test or draft test, demo, draft, sample, staging, placeholder · Duplicate copy, or a Shopify “-1” collection suffix
Nothing flagged. Every URL in the sitemap looks current.
How to use it
Pop in your site address and hit Start scan. It reads your published sitemap and reports in a few moments — it doesn’t open the pages, so what you get back is every URL whose address suggests it might be past its sell by date, a leftover draft or a duplicate. From there, you can decide what deserves an update, a redirect or a dignified trip to the graveyard.
Why it matters
Old, thin or irrelevant pages do more than just clutter your site, they send quality signals to Google about the overall standard of your content. When a large portion of your site is made up of low value URLs, it can dilute the strength of your better pages, waste crawl budget and make it harder for search engines to understand what really matters on your site.
Cleaning up zombie content helps sharpen your topical focus, consolidate authority into stronger pages and improve how efficiently search engines crawl and index your site. It can also lead to a better user experience, with fewer dead ends and more useful, up to date information.
What it won’t tell you
This tool is a starting point, not a full diagnosis. It highlights potential problem areas using the URL alone, but can’t replace an in depth content audit that looks at intent, performance, internal links and overall value. Think of this as your first sweep of the torch through the graveyard, the real investigation still needs a human brain.
